The flowers are finally in a vase and if you remember, its in my favourite colour too - Green! I am absolutely thrilled and excited to see the final product. Kept looking at it for a long time even after it was arranged in the vase. Decided to keep it away from my kids reach (especially my younger one, as she is the naughtier of the two). They were also very happy to see it and kept touching it for a while before I decided to finally move it away. So the day started on a very happy note.
I sadly had a very disturbed sleep last night as there was terrible headache bothering me through out the night. So we decided to take it slow and had a very lazy morning. After breakfast and some chatting and playing at home, we decided to step out of the house at around noon. We had a few grocery shopping to do and then the usual walk. The sun was out but the breeze was so cold that 2 mins into our walk, the girls had to pull out their mittens and snoods. It has lately been getting very cold even in the mornings, let alone the nights, they are freezing. Brrrrrrr.. But we are managing with the heaters in the house.
So like I mentioned in my blog yesterday, I have decided to go on a 10 day no sugar diet. Today being the first day, and since my energy levels were anyways low, I did not feel the trouble of keeping away from sweets. I have heard so much about dates, Medjool dates to be specific, so i bought a packet the other day I saw them at the super market. Have you heard of their benefits and the possibility of substituting it for white sugar?

Mejdool dates are a type of large, sweet, and juicy dates that offer several health benefits. Here are some benefits of Medjool dates:
1. Nutrient-rich: Medjool dates are packed with essential nutrients such as fiber, potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and various antioxidants. These nutrients support overall health and can contribute to a well-balanced diet.
2. Digestive health: Dates are high in dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and helps prevent constipation. The fiber content in Medjool dates promotes regular bowel movements and can improve overall digestive health.
3. Energy boost: Medjool dates are a great source of natural sugars (fructose and glucose) and carbohydrates, making them an excellent energy-boosting snack. The combination of sugars and fiber in dates provides a steady release of energy, making them an ideal choice for athletes or as a pre-workout snack.
4. Heart health: Medjool dates contain potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure and maintain heart health. Their high fiber content may also help lower cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.
5. Bone health: Dates are a good source of minerals like calcium and magnesium, which are essential for maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Regular consumption of Medjool dates can contribute to improved bone density and help prevent conditions like osteoporosis.
6. Antioxidant properties: Medjool dates are rich in antioxidants, including flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acids. These antioxidants help protect the body against oxidative stress and damage caused by harmful free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
7. Blood sugar regulation: While dates are naturally sweet, they have a low glycemic index (GI), meaning they have a minimal impact on blood sugar levels. However, it is still important to consume dates in moderation, especially for individuals with diabetes or those watching their blood sugar levels.
8. Improved brain health: Medjool dates contain vitamin B6, which plays a vital role in brain health and function. Adequate intake of vitamin B6 is associated with better cognitive performance and a reduced risk of age-related cognitive decline.
9. Weight management: Despite being relatively high in calories, Medjool dates can be a beneficial addition to a weight loss or weight management diet. Their high fiber content can help promote feelings of fullness and reduce cravings, making them a satisfying and healthier alternative to sugary snacks.
10. Anti-inflammatory properties: Some studies suggest that dates exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is linked to various health conditions, and consuming Medjool dates may help alleviate inflammation and promote overall health.
Overall, Mejool dates are a nutritious and delicious addition to a balanced diet. However, it is important to note that dates are still relatively high in calories and should be consumed in moderation as part of a well-rounded dietary plan.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. Or do you have any other suggestions for me?
Let me know.
Love
Ammu
