Day 17/366

Today we complete one month since we moved into UK and I'm sure by now you would know I'm big on celebrating the small things in life. So in the evening, the girls and I decided to go out. We would have gone out for dinner but unfortunately Appu had work to be done so he couldn't make it tonight. Nevertheless, The girls got a sweet treat from one of the cupcake shops and I got myself a bubble tea (Mango fruit tea with passion fruit bubbles). Though the tea tasted nothing like the one I used to absolutely love when in Brunei, it was just a good reminder of my good old days in Brunei. Somethings are just too hard to let go off but I'm sure time will heal all wounds. I got to speak to two of my very good friends from Brunei today. Technology has just made it so easy to connect with family and friends even though they are far away in distance from you. The girls and I had a good walk around the mall and the girls did some window shopping just because they felt like it and I wanted them to look around and just be.Sometimes I feel its important to let the kids just be in the moment and not just drag them around to finish off what I needed to do. I am always in a rush most days as once Appu is back, we always try and have dinner as early as 6pm. So then to get the cooking done before 6pm is a task but I try and manage to do it thankfully before time. By 7.30pm, the girls are in bed, a routine we used to follow when we were in Brunei too. Back then they needed to be at school by 7.40 am so I used to wake them up by 6.30am latest. The school timings here are very different, it is from 8.50am-3.20pm. It will definitely take time, but I hope they settle quickly into their new routine.

Since we couldn't go out for dinner tonight, I asked the girls what they felt like eating and one said chips and dip and the other said beef and bread. So I came up with kid friendly version of chilly beef nachos. The girls enjoyed it but both of them had their own different ways of finishing their dinner. While one finished the nachos first and then her beef, the other finished her beef and then the nachos. It is funny how kids in the same house can be so different! So that was done, and we watched a bit of Malayalam movie together after which the girls went to sleep. Appu was still finishing his work and I sat and enjoyed some writing , reading and Instagram browsing before ending the day.

I am thankful for the one month that we have been in the country. So many challenges, especially when you relocate with young kids and so many more hurdles to cross before can fully feel settled but it's going to be one step at a time, one day at a time and one task at a time. Praying and hoping all will fall in place at its right time, Appu, our girls and I move ahead in our new journey in this new country.

Hope your week is going great too.

Cheers and Love

Ammu
