Day 33/366

Another day, another walk. Today i walked past this very old building which was an old railway station but they have still maintained the outer structure of the building and it is still used as a railway station but a different name. The cafes, pubs and stores nearby were named after this building or atleast had something similar to the name. Walked around for a while and then decided to head home as I had to get some groceries on my way back. For the past few days, I have been craving for Kerala Parotta. Its a flatbread made from all purpose flour but very flaky and crispy. Back in Brunei, there were shops that would sell these and they tasted just like the authentic ones. But I have not found a place here that would sell them and hence I decided to give it a try. I have been watching a few videos on how it is made. It involves quite a number of steps but definitely doable. So I have taken up the mission of making Parotta and chicken kebabs for dinner tonight! I kneaded the dough before I left to pick the girls as it needed atleast 2 hours of resting.

On Fridays, on our way back from school, the girls get to choose a sweet treat from the shop nearby and each week one person gets to choose. So the girls were excited about getting their sweet treat and took around 10 mins to finally arrive at a decision. I can only imagine how difficult making a choice wpuld be given the endless options they are given here. So once that was done, we got home , the girls showered , had their milk and watched television while I got back to my Parotta adventure. After their vidoe time, both the girls watched how was working on trying to make these Parottas. It is one of our family favourite dishes, either eaten alone or with chicken. Finally after endless steps, it was time to cook the Parottas and Appu came down to help and be a part of this exciting adventure. We all waited patiently til the first one was made and could wait to try it. My girls took a bite and their smiling faces told me that this was a successful adventure! I must say it was all totally worth it at the end! Crispy, flaky and hot Parotta, along with chicken kebabs (made from scratch) and some mint chutney (picture above) - all homemade! What a bliss! We all relished every bite! Happy girls, Happy Ammu!

Truly an amazing start to the weekend! I was so happy and proud about it! Appu and I watched a little television after the girls went to bed. Appu had some work to finish so he sat a little longer than me at night after we finished watching television.

Wishing you a happy weekend!

Love

Ammu
