Day 43/366

The girls woke up as usual and were still talking about their trip to meet my aunt yesterday. They have definitely had a great time and I'm so happy they did. It feels so nice to have family close by especially when you are so far away from your loved ones. The girls asked for pancake this morning though tomorrow is according to the calendar the 'Pancake Day'. We drizzled the pancake with homemade nutella and mini marshmallows (picture above) and the girls had double their usual servings. Well what is not to like in this after all. The day outside looked nice and sunny and I decided to take the girls outside for a walk as I wanted them to soak in sunlight whenever that was possible. Especially the last few days have been a bit wet and breezy outside. So we went out for a walk and it felt nice.

The girls have always fancied wearing make-up but I did not feel it right especially given their young ages to expose their skin to all the chemicals. Having been in Brunei, my girl friends and I were never into wearing make-up or dressing up every time we meet unless the occasion called for it. I think the one of the reasons we clicked as a group was also because we were free and comfortable being ourselves and did not have to pretend to be a certain way. It gave us the ease to pop up at each other's place without prior notice. But things are not the same here in England. Almost everyone you see outside is well dressed and put together and the girls, given their age, i'm sure have noticed it too. So since it was their holidays, i thought why not let them try a bit of make up. I did not tell them we were going to buy some make up stuff until we got to the store. Once I revealed the reason, you should have seen the excitement on their face. After quite a lot of discussions, we decided on the things we would buy and got home. They could not wait to get into it. We quickly had our lunch and started the most awaited make up session. I added a few of my make up brushes for them to use and they had everything they wanted (picture below) obviously except foundation. The younger one needed a bit more of my help than the older one but at the end of it, both of them kept staring and smiling at their own selfs in the mirror for quite some time.

The girls then went on to wash and play with the shells they had collected yesterday while I took a quick nap. The big lent season started yesterday. It is a 50 days long lent that ends with Easter. Usually when I was younger and did not have kids, we used to avoid non-vegetarian dishes during this time. Ever since I had my girls, since I most probably end up finishing their left overs,I have not been able to observe the lent. But now that they are grown up and can manage to finish their own meals, I decided to observe the lent this time. The girls will have their normal meals and Appu said he would like to join in with me but would like to have fish occasionally. So for dinner tonight we decided to have dosa and sambhar (picture below). The girls relish the dosa but have to try hard to finish their sambhar. Nevertheless they both finished their dinner and finished their bedtime routine in time for bed. Appu slept off with the girls so I sat for some time doing some reading and watched a bit of YouTube videos before retiring to bed.

Hope you had a good day.

Love

Ammu
